House exterior finished!

This last week, I interviewed painters and checked references. The result is that the house exterior is finished - YEA!!

For the detail-oriented, check out the new shingles. Well, new as of May.

I may loose my title as Queen of the Unfinished Projects!

Finishing the spare room!

The project this weekend was to finish the spare room. During the summer, I painted the ceiling and walls, installed shelving units in the closet, and just needed to paint the floor. "Just" wound up taking a couple months, mostly due to the difficulty in removing the bifold doors and supporting hardware from the closet. Now it's done, and ready to receive visitors. Check it out!

Here's the entry.

Here's the corner (to your immediate right) as you enter the room. The left wall is off-white (Swiss Coffee), the right wall is an earth-tone beige (Adobe Straw), and the floor is the same color as the wall of the closet (Red Red Wine).

Here's a detail of the floor. Yep, gold glitter. It didn't even come close to what I thought I wanted. And I'm happy to live with it just as it is.

I've already started moving items back into the room, thereby freeing up lots of space in the rest of the house. I'm also moving other items from around the house into storage (laundry room and metal shed). I love all the space!

The big project this year was adding a carport. More accurately, it was remodeling the west side of the house by removing a funky structure that was there, replacing it with a more uniform structure, and repainting. Check it out!

More on the painting. When I bought the house in 1999, it was a very faded dark green. That first summer (2000), I painted it a sage-y green, which is very much worse for wear and the intense Arizona sun. Because I wanted the house to fit into the landscape, I took a bag of dirt to Home Depot and asked them to color match it. And they did! It even was close to a premixed color - Tribal Pottery (gosh, I love that name).

I selected a trim color that was less saturated.
Here's the detail.

I plan to paint the front door a deep red. I'll be hiring out much of this work, as my skill level is moderate at best, and I prefer to avoid ladders. I'll post again when the project is complete - maybe next year!
